Sports Day

The whole school warms up. The schoole is divided into colour coded teams. Maia is yellow.

Maia's sweet little class.

I remember Long Jump and Sprints - with maybe a three-legged race thrown in for fun. Maia's school believes in obstacle courses and team work.

Maia Bags the Stawamus Chief

She scaled ladders of great height

climbed chains that caused fright

Neared the top well before night

She danced

and yelled with delight.

On May 13, 2007 Maia saw her dream to make it to the top of the Stawamas Chief come true. The 93 million year old granite mololith soars over 650 meters straight up - making it the second tallest granite face in the world. The hike is about 7km return - and Maia rocked. When we got down she tucked into the largest chocolate-covered-strawberry-waffle-bowl-sunday that Dairy Queen had to offer. She stopped, with a tablespoon remaining. and offered us a bite.

The Skip-et craze

I'm not sure I've got the spelling correct, but this toy has taken Emily Carr Elementary's kindergarten by storm. At least 4 kids have them in this class of 15 by my count. We gave in to peer pressure - but Maia paid for it with her money. (Mental note - roll the hundreds of dimes before we get to store)
